But does it make you Smile

Ok, time for a bit of sparkling reflection…
Last week I went to Gothenburg with a friend, and we went there to visit the re opening of a jewelry store. Now, my friend is a magpie, so much so she even has her own jewelry brand, and naturally during the entire train ride here the conversation focused solely on sparkling things.
We gossiped about new releases, pricing and value for money. A hot topic was also jewelry as investment pieces, and what it is you really pay for. You always pay for a brand, often you pay for great design, and the perceived value of a piece is subjective.
My personal jewelry preference is particular, and to an outsider perhaps irrational, but what I came to realize is that there is a key factor that desensitize me for price.
I am a sucker for jewelry that makes me smile. Example, it may sound bonkers to pay $900 for a silver signet ring, especially when that ring would probably be valued at $50 in a pawnshop. But my (now) signature signet ring never fails to put a smile on my face.

Another such example is an elephant pendant. Rationally, despite gold prices being at a record high, you pay a lot for that lil’ pendant. But it makes me giddy every time I see it, and I would love to own it.

So, next time you consider buying something (to you) expensive, ask yourself this… Does it make you smile?
Also: do you have any pieces that never fail to brighten your mood?
